17 arrested, many booked for violating Govt orders

Srinagar, Mar 26 (KNO): With lockdown across India continuing for the second consecutive day, the restrictions continued to remain in place across Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory as precautionary measure to prevent the deadly coronavirus from spreading. According to wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), restrictions under 144 CrPc continued to remain imposed across the Union Territory as precautionary measure. Witnesses said that all the roads across Jammu and Kashmir wore deserted look with people preferring to stay indoors while those who defied the restrictions were booked by the concerned authorities for violating the government orders. They said that police and paramilitary forces were deployed on roads to enforce the restrictions today. The District Magistrate Srinagar, in the meantime has ordered closure of all the religious places as precautionary measure. Besides, police said that at least 17 persons were arrested today in different parts of the Valley for violating the government orders. Police said that the 17 persons who were arrested today were found violating the prohibitory orders issued by government under section 144 CrPC. Awantipora Police have arrested 14 persons for defying prohibitory orders issued under section 144 CrPC and registered a case FIR number 38/2020 under relevant section of law at Police Station Awantipora, police officials said. In Ganderbal, police has arrested three persons involved in violating the prohibitory orders issued under section 144 CrPC by the Government, adding that a case under FIR number 59/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Ganderbal. Besides, officials said that many vehicles were also seized by the authorities who were found violating the government orders today. Meanwhile, police appealed the people to follow the restrictions imposed by District Magistrates in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and those who are violating the restrictions will be dealt strictly. It is notable to mention here that millions of people across India stayed indoors today in wake of the 21-day lockdown call given by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to prevent the deadly virus from spreading.
